Different from a bag and takes a licking August 25, 2010 Michael Foley (San Francisco, CA) Despite not being a traditional heavy bag, this thing takes some serious abuse and without wobble problems. The shape makes it different from a normal heavy bag by forcing you to be more accurate with your strikes. The fact that it's adjustable means you can practice on opponents of different heights.
The only drawbacks: you cannot throw leg kicks; the base makes knee strikes too awkward; he is so barrel-chested that it makes uppercuts difficult; and your hands get torn up after a few rounds if you're not wearing gloves (especially closed-fist hooks and liver shots).
I've been practicing with Bob XL for 2 weeks, and I love it. The benefit of training with a realistic opponent outweighs any disadvantages it has compared to heavy bags, although it's best to practice on both. I leave the base in the back yard (230 lbs of sand), and keep Bob inside when he's not being used. My friends like to play dress up with him. For an accompanying fitness program, I recommend Bas Rutten's MMA Workout.
Body was missing in the box August 17, 2010 Agnes Same problem here. Received the bottom only, body was missing. Staples were removed from one side of the box and opened part was fixed with tape.
Shipping weight on the UPS label was only 18 lbs instead of 47 lbs in product description.
1 star because manufacturer should improve the package (make it partly transparent for example) to avoid part theft by dealers.
softer than i expected August 14, 2010 Ariel PROS: good size, adjustable height, good base, very good for kicking, looks funny.
CONS: too soft, you have to be very close from it in order to feel that youre punching it hard, and filling it with water doesnt make it all that stable, im a 5,11" guy, 198 pounds and when i punch it on the torso i see mi hand going in about 3 inches, and thats because i have the base full of water instead of sand, the nose of the bob is a little too hard to punch it without gloves for more than 10 minutes and whenever a trow a power hook to the head the head of the bob bends almost on a 45 degree angle, so it offers little resistance to power punches.
Overall a very good product for kicking and acurate punching, but as other reviewer said, it is no substitute for a heavy bag.
everything as expected August 3, 2010 JCruse The xl BOB arrived with no damage and no delay in delivery. It truly is everything as advertised. The best thing I like is that my wife is 5'7" and I'm 6'4" and we can both adjust it to our height for workouts. No problems yet... thanks and enjoy.
Best standing punching bag August 3, 2010 D. Lampe (Richmond, VA) This is my third punching bag and by far the best. I competed in thai boxing matches for 7 years and now moved to a university with no gym and no sparring partners available. So the next best thing is Bob in my opinion. A hanging heavy bag might be better for power, however for most people living in an apartment or renting this is not realistic. Bob does hold up fairly well to power strikes and kicks to the lower region. A FEW TIPS THOUGH: Fill the base with pebble stones instead of sand or water and under the stand put a rubber bathtub mat or gym mat. Also I added a blanket under the stand to avoid noise complaints when the stand comes up and slams on the floor with power punches. I love hitting this bag and the sculpted face and body are a lot more fun for precision practice then a bag. Really good product and I would recommend this to anyone who would like to exercise and practice at home.
